To help you understand more about Travel Baseball, here is some information. To see what the practice and tournament schedule look like, click here.
What is Travel Baseball?
Travel baseball gives talented players an opportunity to play at a higher level of competition than town leagues. Top level programs pull the top players from multiple towns playing together. And, Travel Baseball allows players an opportunity to travel around New England and see where they measure up against other talented ball players.
Travel ball is not for everyone. When it comes to the top programs it is not pay to play. It allows a player the chance to go through a tryout process which helps should they play at the High School level. In addition, they compete for a roster spot, and if they make a team, they also compete for playing time.
How to get started with Travel Baseball
Do your homework on which are the best travel teams out there. Player development should be a top priority for the program that you choose. My advice is to attend multiple tryouts. Make sure that the program that selects you is a good fit for your entire family. Check the Elite Baseball League website or AAU website for upcoming tryout dates.
Benefits of Travel Baseball
The best travel programs have top notch coaching. You will often see former college or professional players who have learned the game through years of playing. This level of coaching is able to convey all they’ve learned and pass it on to young players.
Common Questions
How Do I Choose the Age Group?
This is the number one question. Whatever age your player is on May 1, 2025 that is the age group they should tryout for.
Why You Should Consider Travel Baseball
If you’re looking to take your child’s game to the next level there is no other option. Competition breeds success. You need them to compete against better players on a weekly basis.
When Does it start?
Most travel programs begin their training sessions in the Fall months. Tryouts are usually in Late June, July, and early August depending on the age groups.
How much Does it Cost?
Prices may vary, the more a program offers, the higher the price. A rough estimate would be between two and three thousand dollars. The younger ages tend to be closer to $2,400.00 and 13 and over are closer to over $3,300.00 Just be aware, these prices do not include travel costs for away from home tournaments.
All teams require a non-refundable deposit at the time the player is offered the contract. Most teams do not allow refunds, but check your contract upon signing.
At Team Boston, the non-refundable deposit is $250 due at signing. Then, we provide a ten month auto-payment schedule. All tuitions must be paid in full prior to the start of the season.
Why Team Boston
There is not a better group of coaches anywhere in New England. All of our coaches are former players at the collegiate, or professional levels, and we have multiple coaches currently coaching at the College level or High School as well.
Our teams start in the late Fall and practice all winter with skills and drills. Our season starts on or about April 25th. We have our own facility which ensures the ability to practice rain or shine.
The Last Thing You Need to Know
A majority of the top High School players are playing travel baseball and nearly all college or professional players have played on travel ball programs. Over 100 of our players have been recruited to play baseball in college. As a matter of fact, a handful of players have been drafted by Major League Baseball.
